At BioChain, we use proprietary isolation techniques to efficiently extract total RNA from tissues - including difficult sample types, such as cartilage.  The procedures we use vary from tissue type to tissue type, as we emplo...(Expand Details)y the optimum protocol for each situation.  For instance, we developed a dedicated kit to isolate RNA from cartilage, since no existing method worked to our satisfaction.  Since we optimize for high yields, our RNA isolates are representative of the total RNA that was present in a tissue before extraction, including sequences that express at a low copy number, so that you can be confident of your functional genomics results.  Our methods protect the RNA as its being isolated and stored, so you can expect the highest quality possible for each sample type, and as we have a comprehensive collection of normal, diseased, and tumor tissues to choose from, we can offer RNA isolated from a wide array of tissues as standard items in our catalog.  You can order these on a moment's notice.  We also offer custom procurement and collection services, so that you can be sure to get exactly the RNA extracts that you need - including RNA from non-mammalian animals and plants.

BioChain's extraction techniques have also been optimized to collect RNA of a wide array of sizes, as there are many different RNA molecules within a cell.  Over the last couple of decades, our understanding of the complexity of RNA transcription, and the various functions of different RNAs, has changed considerably, making it increasingly important to consider all of the RNA species present in a tissue or organism. Molecules such as long-noncoding RNAs and small RNAs including miRNA, siRNA, snRNA, and piRNA can target mRNA for degradation, potentially block mRNA transcription, or even target genes for methylation - which may have epigenetic effects, that can dramatically influence disease states such as cancer.  To confirm the presence of the desired RNA size classes in each lot of material, we include gel photos on our datasheets, which you can generally access online.  RIN scores are frequently listed as well, or are available on request, so you can be certain of your starting material when you begin a new project.

Total RNA - To sum it up:

  • Our proprietary total RNA extraction process recovers the widest array of size classes possible.
  • We use the ideal kit or protocol for each sample type in order to ensure efficient recovery of high quality RNA - to ensure good representation of low copy sequences.
  • We can provide thousands of different total RNA samples from various human tissues - including normal tissue, tumor tissue, or tissue exhibiting other disease states.  We can also provide RNA from other animal, or plant tissues.
  • If you don't see the RNA that you need in our catalog, or need the same RNA species from multiple donors, our procurement services are ready to help. We want to be the solution to all of your RNA procurement problems.
  • Our Total RNAs are ready-to-use for Northern blotting, cDNA synthesis, RNase protection analysis, microRNA study, qrt-PCR, RNA differential display, and other challenging procedures.

We can save you valuable research time and money by eliminating the hassle of locating and extracting RNA from a variety of sample types.  Our procurement services can also help you find rare materials - enabling you to perform experiments that you thought were impossible.

  • Decontamination of polysaccharide, proteoglycan, RNase, and genomic DNA
  • Extensive quality control procedures to ensure high quality
  • High efficiency reverse transcription
  • Available documentation of tissues' clinical histories

Applications of Total RNA

  • Northern Blotting, RT-PCR, and RACE
  • cDNA synthesis and cDNA library construction
  • cDNA probe for profiling study in gene expression
  • RNA protection and primer extension
  • RNA display
  • Purification of mRNA
  • MicroRNA study

Quality Control of Total RNA

  • The integrity of the RNA is examined by visual inspection for the presence of intact bands of 18s and 28s ribosomal RNA when electrophoreses on a denaturing agarose gel.
  • The quality and purity of total RNA were tested by spectrophotometer. A260/280 is between 1.8 and 2.1 (detected in 10 mM Tris-HCl, pH 7.5).
  • The RNA is treated by DNAse I, and is tested as DNA free RNA by PCR.
  • cDNA synthesis is successfully performed by using this RNA as template.
