Paraffin Tissue Section – Human Breast Tumor, BRCA Characterized
BRCA1 and BRCA2 are tumor suppressor genes found in humans which encode proteins that function in DNA repair. Mutations within BRCA genes result in the loss of this important function and are therefore linked to susceptibility of certain cancers, such as: breast, ovarian, pancreatic, prostate, and skin cancers. BioChain has collected many tumor samples in both frozen and FFPE format with the aim of characterizing the DNA for BRCA mutations. We first isolated genomic DNA from the frozen tumor tissues and then processed them for subsequent NGS characterization using Paragon’s BRCA1&2 panel.
These BRCA-characterized samples are excellent reference tissues for scientists in the oncology field who are studying pathways related to BRCA1 and BRCA2. Currently these samples all derive from breast cancer donors as the BRCA genes are strongly linked to oncogenesis in this tissue type. However, we will continue to characterize additional tissue types where cancer development is linked to BRCA mutations.
In several cases, samples may be available as matched sets which include the adjacent normal/primary tumor tissue along with plasma from the same donor.
