Introduction to Human(Breast Cancer)

Breast cancer is a cancer of the glandular breast tissue. Among women in the U.S., breast cancer is the most common cancer and the second-most common cause of cancer death (after lung cancer). Several protein markers have been used for prognosis and selection of therapy. For example, the expression of HER2/NEU and CYTOKERATINS can be used to refine the prognosis of breast cancers. HER2/NEU, EGFR and KIT are used clinically to predict if breast cancers will respond to trastuzumab. Expression of estrogen receptor or progesterone receptor is necessary for hormonal therapies to be effective against breast cancer.
